Hunting stories that will capture your imagination Join the author on an exciting journey as he hunts on five continents over a span of ten years. Each hunting experience is uniquely different, and as interesting as the people and places visited. The tales are painfully honest; not every story will end the way you might think it should. You will see how rewarding hunting can be, but also how easily things can go awry in an instant. All the events are real; however, the names are not. No outfitter in his right mind would allow a story to be told that puts his operation in a bad light. This is what makes this book different from any other you will read. Our hunting heritage is strong because no other sport has the ability to create memories quite the way this one does. This book will fuel your desire to get out there on your own, or with a friend or family member, and at the same time will raise your awareness level as to the potential pitfalls that can occur if you fail to do your homework. These stories have been written by a hunter for other hunters' enjoyment. Hunt safely and have fun!

Confession #1: I am friends with the author and we are both part of the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry ministry that helps hunters provide venison to the needy across America.

Confession #2: Although I am a life long hunter, this is the first book of hunting stories that I've ever read cover to cover!

I greatly enjoyed reading through each of the stories in this book. Although I can count the number of animal types I've hunted on one hand, I now feel like I have a grasp of the excitement, challenges, joys, disappointments, and even dangers of hunting a variety of game species in locations around the globe.

The stories read like one part novel, one part diary, and one part review. The narratives include details about the sights, sounds, people, food, and other things encountered in each country/location. There are also personal observations and insights that make each location and hunt come alive. Important details are included about things like the selection of outfitters that could come in handy for those contemplating similar hunts of their own.

I appreciate that the author has included details about things going on in the world at the time of some of the hunts. This helps anchor the stories in the real world. He has also included some raw, negative encounters with outfitters and guides, as well as some hunts with "unsuccessful" outcomes - just like we experience in our own hunting situations.

While Ken is indeed an accomplished hunter himself, he never tries to come across as an "expert" in these hunting accounts. He is a family man and typical deer hunter who decided to experience the thrill and adventure of hunting the far corners of the globe, and lived to tell (and write!) about it.

For those who don't have the opportunity to undertake such a quest themselves, this book provides an enjoyable opportunity to experience a world of hunting abroad - right from your favorite chair!

In the Crosshairs From Whitetail to Wildebeest Ken Huebsch 9781604947335 Books Reviews

I'm not much of a hunter, but I sure felt like one as I tagged along with the writer over five continents in his quest for adventure on the track of animals I'd never heard of, some of them dangerous. Mostly, this is a book for serious hunters by a man who obviously knows the ropes care and testing of equipment, proper outfitting, pre-trip evaluations and arrangements. Besides being a good shot. But, more than that, the book is honest, exciting, humorous in part, deadly serious at times. I found myself transported vicariously into strange places and situations that I could clearly visualize from the security of my armchair. A safe adventure. The author is obviously much more than just a big game hunter. He's a world-traveler, a caring family man and a generous guy. He doesn't just hunt for trophies - - he makes sure the meat from his kills go to help feed the locals wherever he hunts. Back home in Pennsylvania he is active in a unique group called "Farmers and Hunters Feeding The Hungry" where deer hunters can donate their deer to a highly organized food distribution system which provides free processed venison to the needy. Also, 100% of the proceeds from this book is going to help feed the hungry. This book is a fun, educational and inspiring read.
perfect for a hunter, or even someone like me who is curious because i'm not a hunter. the stories are clear and engaging
The journey taken through the entire book kept my interest in wanting to read more! I enjoyed the different cultures described and every exhibition was not the same as the last. The part that I like the most was the inspiration for the book and seeing how charitable the author is. This is a must read for every level of hunter...
Success and Failure, the author (my father) doesn't hold back when he tells his stories. He makes mistakes, like we all do, and he tells us about them, which makes this book seem so real. It feels like his stories could, easily, be our own experiences if we were in the same situation. As I read, I felt excitement, disappointment, adrenaline rushes and uncertainty. All of this is packed into an easy-to-read, no fluff, account from a sincere man who just loves God's Beautiful World. I am so proud of him, and excited to contribute to his cause, which all proceeds from the book support.
I am not a hunter at all and have never had any interest in it. I originally purchased the book solely to be supportive of feeding the hungry where the proceeds of the sales were being directed. Actually, I purchased two of them, one for myself and one to give to my brother as a gift since he is an avid hunter. The almost surprising thing to me was that I actually really enjoyed reading the book. I found the stories interesting, entertaining and most engaging. It brought to life something that I had really known nothing about, and I found myself really being drawn into the various stories and adventures. My brother, the hunter, called me within a couple of days of receiving the book and told me that he just couldn't put the book down. He absolutely loved it! So, this is a great book whether you're a hunter or totally clueless about hunting - a wonderful, well written, most engaging read.
