This is a Christian historical romance. I like that genre, but some people may not and this description was not clear.The things I liked about this book were 1) The plot. It was unique, entertaining and somewhat unpredictable; and 2) Character Development. The characters were all well-honed, some complex, some more simple, but all well done.
The Cons: 1) Way too long. There were just too many descriptions that took up a lot of pages and contributed nothing to the book; and 2) Editing could be better, although I've seen way worse and it didn't bother me all that much.

I have to say, for as long as I had been wanting to read this, it was pretty disappointing. It took me so long to read, the story was like molasses until right near the end. The story was rather simple overall, even mind numbing at times.
For the first probably about half of the book you follow Ireland Rose, or Rose, through her day as a wealthy Charleston housewife in the late 1800's. Which I must say is rather dull for the most part. Rose had some interesting qualities, but I didn't really like her.
I do like reading Historical Fiction, so if I had to read it again, I probably would, even if only to get a feel for the time period. Rose is rather religious, and so are others in the story, which I am normally not fond of, but it doesn't take away from the story.
One of my biggest peeves in this book was the grammar and spelling. So many mistakes! The author even completely forgets one of the characters' name and puts it down as something else in one of the chapters. I feel like since it is in print, someone should have made more effort to edit it and make sure everything was in order.
I will likely read the second one, if only because after this much into Rose's life, I am curious to see the rest of it.
This book is a fun little quick read. It is Christian fiction and a completely "clean" novel.
On the plus side, I liked the main character, especially in the beginning when she was alone and trying to find her way in the world. I liked the family of servants (former slaves) who worked for her, and the author is strong on dialogue. The basis of the plot was good Naïve young girl alone in the world, unsure of whom to trust.
However the negatives are quite real too As other posters mentioned, the spelling and grammar are simply inexcusable -- the mistakes grew worse as the end of the book approached, and it affected the experience of reading the book. A few times the author even used one character's name when she clearly meant another character! Though the concept of the plot was good, its completion wasn't entirely satisfactory The author left big unanswered questions For example, the Smith family was worried about their daughter, and that plotline was never completed. You don't open doors in a novel if you don't intend to have someone walk through them! Finally, the novel was completely inaccurate in terms of historical accuracy; for example, the legal rights of women and former slaves were completely fabricated. In reality, the Smith family would never have accepted the large gift Rose gave them -- it would've literally led to their deaths.
I had high hopes for this book because the storyline sounded interesting. Boy was I disappointed! The worst thing about the book were the incredible grammar and spelling mistakes; quotation marks missing or in the wrong place, misspelled words, missing words, and much more made it really difficult to follow sometimes. Even transferring the document to Word would eradicate 90% of the mistakes. The historical information is so inaccurate it was laughable! A widow woman inherits a house and business in the mid-1880's? Not gonna happen. And then the plot had her give the house to a black family? There would be serious repercussions if this were a serious novel. That would not happen in Charleston right after the Civil War. The whole storyline was just unbelievable and so crazy, I had to laugh out loud at some of the twists. There is no way someone traveled back and forth to Ireland that many times in one year. A voyage to England alone took months, and they didn't just hop on a ship as portrayed in this story. And who in their right mind would give an illegitimate child to the widow of the father, and say that was a good solution?! And why was it sociably unacceptable for Rose to have a baby born to a single orphan, but it was completely acceptable for a widow to adopt her husband's illegitimate baby?
I would not recommend anyone wasting their time on this book, even if you get it for free. I can't believe this author has more books published. I hope her other ones are better edited and written, although I won't waste my time to find out.
I rather enjoyed Edwina so I started on Ireland Rose next. It started off well enough but it got needlessly drawn out. Parts of the book were well written while other parts were in need of editing, especially towards the end. There were instances when I wondered if a line or a paragraph or a name was missing. Character description was excellent, better than many books. However, the story was so needlessly drawn out that at 49% (midway) I jumped to the last chapter and read each chapter in reverse order.
As it relates to historical inaccuracies, I'm not much bothered usually. I am more of a stance that I will give a writer some space for imagination in not keeping with the period fully, but if a writer is going to use a real town and real events and lean heavily upon them then I would think it would've best to fact check.
The last few chapters felt rushed/hastily written. A strong contrast to the first half of the book. The story has greater potential but it needs to be revised.
